Ja Tawn was born in Queens NY a nice quiet suburban area with her family and Shi Tzus, Sam and Gio. As a woman in her 50s, She has an extensive and enriching career in fashion that started as a model in the 90s when signed with Ford Models NY and Wolf Models in Germany. She modelled for national and international brands, including Ashley Stewart, Lane Bryant and Bloomingdales. She was featured in magazines such as Essence, Belle, Mode, and Figure while dabbling as an extra on various TV shows and movies.
She stopped modeling for a hot minute in the early 2000s when she received her dream gig as a model booker for the Curves division of Red Model Management NY. It was during this time that she started to experiment in the styling world and eventually launched her own styling, fashion consulting, and model development company called Avanti Consulting in 2005.
In 2010 she became the Fashion Editor of Fire Magazine styling several covers that featured singers such as Omarion, Neyo, as well as late actor Lance Reddick of The Wire. She also became a freelance contributing fashion writer for Fashionledge.com, Style.com, and Examiner.com.
Curvy Chick Confidential was an online blog she created covering fashion, lifestyle, beauty, and events. Her days were spent researching the latest fashion trends, beauty products, and local events.
Though she no longer struts the runway due to being diagnosed with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis in her 40’s, that doesn’t stop her from enjoying life . She has to wear a back brace for her posture to get her spine chord to straightened out and walk with a cane when going outside, but she is in high spirit.
She loves to sing, garden, interior decorating and photography.
