Born and raised in Upstate New York, Kyami’s (aka iamkyami (she/they)) journey into music began at a young age, intertwining with her passion for art, soccer and Tae Kwon Do, where she achieved a 2nd degree black belt and garnered local championship accolades. From presidential service awards to wildland firefighter, Kyami’s life experiences build on her world of music, art and expression.
Now based in Manchester, UK, Kyami's artistic flair reflects a unique Japanese and Black American neurodiverse femme identity. Since debuting in 2019, she has captivated audiences with her alternative J-pop RnB sound, notably with tracks like "Concrete Rose," praised for its introspective lyrics.
After releasing her first EP, "Life of Ky," in 2020, Kyami signed with Manchester's Heist or Hit label, showcasing her versatility with a self-produced, experimental pop sound on her second EP, "The Kenny Klubhouse," in 2022. Transitioning from her label in 2023, she embarked on a new chapter, releasing singles like "ichigo" and a more UK-club driven track "tina," as well as a collaborative track, "I LUV MY LIFE," under [PIAS]'s subsect label, LOVELY PEOPLE, with ESEA Music.
Kyami's magnetic presence extends beyond her music, with her online persona leading to collaborations with brands like Samsung and Nike, as well as partnerships with ASOS, Pinterest, and others. Her dynamic performances have graced international festivals and earned her praise from BBC 1Xtra, BBC Introducing Radio 1, and publications like Rolling Stone and Dork Magazine.
As she continues to carve her own path in the music industry, Kyami's whimsical approach and deep emotional resonance promise an ever-evolving journey filled with new music, content, and collaborations.
