I would describe Debbie as fun, bubbly with a fighting spirit. She never let her traumatic start in life get her down and doesn’t let anyone or anything dull her sparkle. Debbie is pro-active, determined and enjoys spending time with family and friends. The scars from the childhood surgery used to make her feel ashamed, upset and frustrated as she just wanted to be ‘like everyone else’ and wear a low-cut top and bikini and to feel ‘included’.
However, now that the world is changing, she no longer feels she has to hide her scars as visual differences should be embraced as they are part of her and the reason she survived. She now wears her scars like a warrior with pride.
Achievements include being a ‘songwriter’ and writing the lyrics for K-pop’s biggest girl group called ‘Twice’. The song ‘Only You’ was released on their ‘Signal’ album and performed live during their tour at the Tokyo Dome. Another achievement was being awarded the ‘Face of Cheltenham’ and appearing in The Cheltonian magazine and taking part in bridal and streetwear photoshoots.
Hobbies include Zumba dancing, skipping with a rope and dining out with friends and family.
To be an advocate for visual differences and inspire others to embrace their perfect imperfections is something Debbie has always wanted to do.
A favourite quote is ‘Scars are like tattoos but with better stories’.
