Mathilda is a quietly confident and creative person, striving to develop her skills through learning and has an avid love of reading and art. Mathilda beat the odds of a 30% survival rate due to Amniotic Band Syndrome, resulting in (corrected) bilateral talipes and a Symes amputation. In September 2021 she underwent a further surgery and now has a below-knee amputation. Mathilda also wears hearing aids and wishes to learn British Sign Language. She wishes to develop her mobility through climbing, swimming and archery.
Having spent her childhood travelling the world- living most recently in New Zealand- she loves learning about other cultures and exploring the ways in which the world makes way for individuals with disabilities. Mathilda is currently doing a full-time degree in Art History and Comparative Literature in Scotland, and wishes to use her studies to further her interest and research into women’s and disability rights as well as analytical approaches to art. She has a love and a keen eye for fashion and interior design, and greatly enjoys working with colours. Mathilda wishes to use her disability and history of body dysmorphia to educate and inspire others.
