Ian’s strength and determination since his motorcycle accident have been astonishing. He follows his dreams and aims to fulfil his ideas and passions with a great determination, strength, and humour. Four months after leaving hospital Ian took part in a track event on his adapted motorbike. Ian still rides his adapted motorbike on the road and track. In his wheelchair, Ian took part in the 2023 London marathon raising over £10,000 for charity.
From a successful career in the aviation industry, Ian has used the event which altered his life to retrain to be able to work for himself, doing what was his hobby, restoring classic vehicles. This enables Ian to manage his disability and his changed priorities of exploring the world.
During his rehabilitation Ian was aware of a lack of easily available information on spinal injuries and how positive peer support can be. Ian helped start the podcast This is spinal crap with four other friends, to discuss the difficulties spinal injuries bring but in a positive humorous manner. Ian volunteers for a spinal charity as a mentor to help other people going through their spinal injury journey.
Ian worked as an actor, model, and presenter when in his 20’s and 30’s appearing on television, on stage, in music videos, within magazines, newspapers and advertising campaigns. Ian is now looking to reignite his passion for the performing arts as an advocate for the less abled.
