His name is Flavio. He was born in Guadeloupe, a French Caribbean Island. He dreamt of becoming a professional football player. He went to metropolitan France when he was 15 years olds as he was recruited in a French club in Clermont-Ferrand. He was studying and preparing his high school diploma in literature and playing soccer at the highest youth levels in France. At 17, when he was about to sign in a professional football club, he had a meningococcaemia. He survived despite 1% chance to survive according to the doctors, but he lost his right leg and his child dream.
But his ambition and his perseverance allowed him to get up from this experience. Now he is still in football and work in his former club ( AS Montferrand) as a coach and a video analyst. Despite his motor disability, Flavio is completing his federal coach diploma and a STAPS (Sciences and Techniques Of Physical activities) License in sports training (option football).
Flavio raises awareness on social media about disability and meningitis by doing videos and interviews with different medias (Konbini, GSK, Sanofi…).
Flavio is an ambassador of Sanofi and does conferences with doctors and employees where he tells his story to prevent against meningitis and to speak about the importance of vaccination.
He also has his own association called TBF – Thought By Flavio Da Pozzo that goes with young people with disability in their sports career and projects (his association already accompany Romane, a young para athlete towards Paris Paralympics game next year). His association also raises awareness of rare diseases like meningitis.
And as he is still an ambitious sportsman, Flavio now practices 100m and long jump and is aiming the Paralympics games in Paris in 2024. He’s training 8 times a week to reach his goals.
