Samuel has worked in the media industry for over 15 years as a content maker, radio and podcast host and recently released a documentary for The Guardian UK and Screen Australia called Pressure & Release, he was the writer/producer for it. Samuel loves playing basketball and barefoot waterskiing, motorbike riding and getting into extreme sports, and has had to give many of them a break after the injuries became too regular and severe. Being creative is Samuel’s saving grace, digital media, painting, making music and writing.
Samuel has created podcasts, and produced interviews for multiple organisations and private clients, working with people from all around the world, and from all walks of life. Including Prime Ministers and other political leaders, famous entertainers and artist and your any person with an interesting story to tell.
Due to Samuel’s health issues and the impact on his life, Samuel decided to do his first photo-shoot, to regain his confidence, conquer the fear of failure and be in front of the camera.
Samuel was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia around 10 years ago, and most recently the doctors have diagnosed Functional Neurological Disorder. “It feels odd to be finally accepting this as a disability”, says Samuel, and “it feels good to know there are agencies that can see past my troubled body and see the diverse range of skills I have to offer. I have Chronic Pain, Chronic Fatigue and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. My symptoms became so severe I could no longer function in everyday life and was hospitalised twice in 12 months”. This is when Samuel decided it was time to take back control of his life, and get back to doing what he loves, creating.
After years of uncertainty with his identity, Samuel is becoming comfortable talking about his bisexuality/pansexuality and refers to himself as non-binary. Although on the topic of gender, Samuel says, “I don't feel I fit in any clear gender category and believe it is more of a construct for people to classify you”. For Samuel, he would rather not have any classification, whether it is to do with my sexuality or my gender. And be based on his personality, his actions, abilities and behaviour.
